Sweden won gold in 4x10km relay by Magdalena Rosova
Swedish skiers won a gold medal in cross country 4x10 km relay at the Vancouver Olympics. Last time Sweden won Olympic title 22 years ago. Sweden won the medal for a record fifth time on Wednesday. Norway won silver and Czech Republic bronze medal. Swedish quartet finished relay with the best time 1h 45m 05.4sec, which was 15.9sec better than Norwegians. Swedish Marcus Hellner was the one who crossed the line and had enough time to even unfurl a Sweden flag and wave it when crossing it. Petter Northug let Norwegians to a win in leg sprint on Monday, but was not able to repeat the victory on Wednesday. That time it was Daniel Richardsson, Johan Olsson, Anders Soedergren ! and Marcus Hellner who triumphed. Olson said that beating the Norwegians made their victory even sweeter and he added that their biggest goal was to get away from Norway. Norwegian team consisting of Martin Johnsrud, Odd-Bjoern Hjelmeset, Lars Berger and Petter Northug won silver medal and Czechs Martin Jaks, Lukas Bauer, Jiri Magal and Martin Koukal got to the final line at 16.5sec. Olsson commented the victory saying that quality preparation had made the team so successful. Northug revealed that when he was absolutely exhausted he decided to slow down a bit and save his power at the end. In the first leg it looked like French will win the madal, Italians and the Russians struggled to keep pace. In the end the French team consisting of Vincent Vittoz, Jean-Marc Gaillard, Maurice Manificat and Emmanuel Jonnier missed bronze by four seconds.

Rusko vyhralo v ženskom biatlone zlatú medailu by Magdalena Rosova
V utorok Rusko zvíťazilo v ženskom biatlone a v napínavom súboji s Francúzskom a Nemeckom vyhralo zlatú medailu. Francúzsko dorazilo do cieľa iba niekoľko sekúnd za Francúzskom, s časom jedna hodina, desať minút a trinásť sekúnd vyhralo bronzovú medailu. Neunerová patrí k najrýchlejším lyžiarom a nemeckému týmu chýbala jej posila v poslednom rozhodujúcom boji o striebro. V ! rozhodujúcom treťom kole Ruska Oľga Medvedtsevo! vá podala obdivuhodný výkon a je to hlavne jej zásluha, že ruský tím zvíťazil nad Nemeckom s veľkým náskokom 44,8 sekúnd. Keď Ruska Oľga Zaitsevová, ktorá v nedeľu vyhrala striebornú medailu, v treťom kole dobre strelila, ruský tím mal zlatú medailu vo vrecku. Po tom, čo v treťom kole Francúzska Mari Dorinová dvakrát neúspešne strelila, dostala dve trestné kolá. Avšak vďaka jej vynikajúcim lyžiarskym schopnostiam zostalo Francúzsko v hre a v poslednom okruhu Francúzska Baillyová porazila Nemku Andreu Henkelovú a získala pre svoju krajinu striebornú medailu.

Russia retains women's biathlon relay gold by Magdalena Rosova
Russia has retained its gold medal in biathlon at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. France was second and Germany has won bronze medal. On Tuesday Russia won the women's relay biathlon gold medal ahead of France and Germany. The winning time of the Russian team was amazing 1hr 9min 36.3sec. On the final leg French Sandrine Baily managed to beat Germany and with time one hour 10min 09.1sec France finished with silver. Germany was only few seconds behind France, with time 1hr 10min 13.4sec it won bronze medal. After German star Neuner won mass start on Sunday, she announced she would not try to win a third gold and fourth Olympic medal because of mental fatigue. She added ! that she would love to see one of her team-mate win a medal. But without Neuner, Germany was not able to beat fast French quartet. Neuner is one of the fastest cross-country skiers and German team missed her in the final battle for silver. In the decisive third leg Russian Olga Medvedtseva produced a great display of cross-country skiing and it is mostly her credit that Russian team led 44.8sec over the Germans. When Russian Olga Zaitseva, who won silver medal in mass start on Sunday, shot well on the final leg, Russian team could be sure about their gold. On the third leg French Mari Dorin missed two shots and therefore got two penalty laps. But her great skiing kept France in touch and on the final leg France's Bailly beat Germany's Andrea Henkel and won silver for her country.

The fearless Canadian athlete Ashleigh McIvor simply ran down her rivals on the podium of the Whistler Mountain on Tuesday winning the Olympic gold in ski cross. Right behind her were Norwegian Hedda Bernsten and French Marion Josserand. She provided her country the sixth golden medal of the Games so far. Physically extraordinary fit, mentally maybe even better, with admiring technique and toughness, the second in the World Cup rankings, McIvor couldn’t stop taking breath of the fans. She grew up on the same mountain. She explained that having the chance to race in front of the host country eyes has been only a productive pressure. She justly wasn’t modest to ! say that she had the reason to be proud of herself. “This was the only race of my life where I just felt like I was going to win. I used to think it was bad to think that way, that I was going to jinx it, or that I’d be so disappointed if I then didn’t win. I don’t know, I just had a really good feeling about this race . . . this crazy feeling that I was going to win.” – said 26 years old skier. She added that her recent inspiration was her compatriot snowboard cross gold medalist Maelle Ricke. “I was thinking about what Maelle said when she finished [a week ago], that she was focused on exploding out of the start. Thank you Maelle. She was a real inspiration. She kind of made me go, ‘Okay, local girl. This event was made for us.’”. Ashleigh McIvor was a University of British Columbia. Seven years ago, she wrote an English class essay on the topics why should ski cross enter the Olympics. Yesterday she proved it! practically. Another good motivation for her was the crash of! her boy friend Chris Del Bosco on the podium spot, so she simply promised herself not to make the same mistake. Ashleigh started skiing since 2, when she was skiing down the carpeted steps into her family’s sunken living room.

France won the eight medal thanks to 21-year old biathlete by Zivka Deleva
The 21 year old French biathlete Martin Fourcade brought his country the eight medal on the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olimpic Games, on the 15km mass start. His biggest rival was Russianman Evgeny Ustyugov, who was faster for 10.5 seconds, at the Whistler Olympic Park. That was the first Olimpic competition for the 24-year old Russian soldier. It was one of the happiest days in the life of the young French athlete. But as well, as the toughest one. - If you say you can’t go on the podium everybody looks at you. You have to fight and it got better and better for me. I could see all the other athletes were tired” – said one of the youngest participant in the ! race. If there weren’t the two mistakes, the missed targets, one in the opening stage and the other in the final round, maybe he would have reached Ustyagov. The Russian had a very solid shooting. Fourcade started competing when he was only 14. His older brother Simon is a biathlete, as well. He also competes these Olimpic Games. France has won five biathlon medals in the history of the Olimpic Games. French people couldn’t be happier and have to honor this young sportsman, who competes under the French three color flag since 2006. His basic club is Club des sports de Villard-de-Lans, with the mentoring of his couch Stephane Bouthiaux. The bronze medal went in the hands of Pavol Hurajt of Slovakia, though he was the leader during almost the whole race. This race was a big dissapointment for the Norwegean people. Their best biathlon competitors Ole Einar Bjørndalen and World Cup leader Emil Hegle Svendsen didn’t make it even in the first ten. The ! ten times Olympic medallist Bjørndalen finished 27=th wit! h seven penalty rounds and had his worst shooting performance since 1994 World Cup event. His compatriot who already won two medals in Vancouver, finished 13-th. - I don't know what happened. On some days, it's just not going your way," said 36-year-old Bjoerndalen. The biathlon is an olimpic sport that combines ruffle shooting and cross country skiing.

First Olympic gold for Bode Miller by Zuzana Zelenakova
On Sunday, American ace Bode Miller fulfilled one of his dreams when he won his first Olympic gold medal in the men´s super-combined. Miller´s winning time was 2 minutes 44.92 seconds. Ivica Kostelic from Croatia lost 0.33 second on Miller and received the silver. The bronze medal went to Switzerland´s Silvan Zurbriggen. "The gold medal is great. I think it's perfect. Ideally, that's what everyone is shooting for. But the way I skied these last races is what matters. I would've been proud of that skiing with a medal or not," Miller said after the race. Truly, his Sunday performance which he was obviously enjoying is something to be proud of. The gold for Bod! e Miller comes after he won a bronze in downhill on Monday and silver in Friday´s super-G. The public is now waiting to see what happens in two remaining events, the giant slalom and the slalom. The pressure put not only on Miller but the whole American team is enormous right now. Miller´s gold was eight medal for the USA and everyone is wondering how long are the Americans able to keep such a pace. "I don't know how long we can keep this up. It's emotionally and physically exhausting," said Miller. Miller´s winning chain in Vancouver is frequently put in contrast with what we could call 2006 Turin fiasco. Four years ago in Italy, the American athlete disappointed a lot of people when he finished only two of five races and never ranked better than fifth, not to mention his party man reputation back then. When asked he said he was enormously pressured by all those expectations from media, sponsors, fans. "In '06, I didn't really necessarily want to be there fo! r a number of reasons ... but, you know, I also didn't want to! not be there. So I was incredibly conflicted," he said.

I have been wondering what was so interesting about Tiger Woods last days. Of course he is a golf superstar, man who never miss the hole, the one whom is believed to belong to the richest group of people in the world and the man who in his 34 years suddenly breaks up career. When you enter the life of show business, no matter in how and where, you become a public person. It means you no longer have a place to hide and there is nothing sacred about you. You don't have your privacy and the less you have, the more people buy you. This is the case of Woods, of course. Still it pisses me off why do people waste their time reading long and long articles focusing on his extramarita! l adventures. Still I do pity him and refuse to take this privacy from him. For me it doesn't matter whether he makes press conferences to assure vampire journalists that he would be a good boy, if his sponsors would pay him back his golf career. He might even use that to keep up his popularity in the time when he was off. Yes and maybe it's the similar reaction among the rest of golf player crew. Why should we care about him unless it wasn't about the game? Some players suggested they were unwilling to see him having the press conference with his ex-sponsors. Maybe it's not correct to attract the attention in the middle of ongoing Championship. But maybe Tiger Woods doesn't care for this. Maybe he just want to get back. And maybe we can skip the word maybe. He is coming back.

Any won medal is an honor – not only for a sportsman but also for his country. It is tangible evidence of their skills and effectiveness of their techniques. It is also an honor for their trainers and a good advertising for their sponsors. Canadian snowboard rider Maelle Ricker is one of those lucky men. In snowboard cross she won gold for Canada, what made her the first Canadian woman who could taste the victory at home. This 31-year-old sportswoman was very lucky. When she fell on the first qualifying run and the weather conditions were threatening to cancel the second and final qualifying run, her qualification was in serious danger. And as she was practicing whole! year, it would be more than just misspend chance. Fortunately the decision was made to carry on with the qualifying and Ricker finally qualified in third place. By her words: “The first run was a disaster. But I went back up to the start, I refocused, I visualized. Just thought about my lines and threw down a solid run and stayed on my feet and stayed balanced.” Ricker continued that gloomy and rainy weather was just perfect for her so she could simply enjoy the ride. This victory was some kind of sporting revenge when U. S. snowboarder Seth Wescott stole the gold medal from Canadian Mike Robertson the day before Ricker’s winning run. Far behind her was France’s Deborah Anthonioz who took the silver medal. Bronze went to Switzerland’s Olivia Nobs who slipped up but then got back and stayed the course.

L'Angleterre bat l'Italie 17 à 12 à Rome by Magdalena Rosova

Američan Wescott obhájil prvenstvo pred kanaďanom Robertsonom a francúzom Ramoinom. by Milota Sidorova
#233;my. Hladko došiel do cieľa.

V snowboardkrose poputovali tri medaily do Kanady, Francúzska a Švajčiarska. Kanaďanka Maelle Rickerová vyhrala zlatú medailu, striebornú získ! ala Deborah Anthonioz a bronzovú Švajčiarka Olivia Nobs. No mala tiež aj kus šťastia.

England won over Italy 17-12 in Rome by Magdalena Rosova
After a tight game England finally overcame a stubborn host Italy 17-12 in their Six Nations clash at the Stadio Flaminio last Sunday. Italy got as close as ever to its first victory against England. Italians played really great and the thrilling game kept fans on the edge of their seats for the whole time. Jonny Wilkinson played an important part in the exciting game as he missed two penalties and a conversion, all from good positions. In spite of Jonny's ridiculous performance, England captain Steve Borthwick said that the English game had been impressive. Borthwick's position as captain was threatened, but manager Martin Johnson re-appointed him a week before the firs! t match. England is determined to win every match and now the team have won the second one. According to Borthwick, the English team had realized Italy was big rival and therefore they had been prepared for tough match. Borthwick added that breaks by Ugo Monye and Delon Armitage down the flanks had been fantastic and England had played some outstanding rugby. Apparently, Italy did not take lesson from the previous match against Ireland as it did not improve the line-out which was Italy's mayor problem in the previous game. The game reminded of ping-pong at times, but England made a couple of really good breaks. For a while Italy took the lead when it won quick line-out ball in England's 22, but Italy's hopes were hit six minutes after the restart when Armitage sent the ball to Tait to streak home. Italy did not managed to make a decisive break and lost the game.

Snowboard cross has become an official Olympic discipline in Torino, four years ago. So far, it has! had the same winner. The American Seth Wescott won both finals, leaving behind Mike Robertson of Canada, his team-mate Nate Holland who ended up on fourth place. Tony Ramoin arrived into the finish line after Holland couldn't balance and failed. It is the first important victory for 21 years-old Frenchman. Wescott is already 33 years-old and far more experienced, although his season was qualified as “average”. In December he injured his pelvis during a race in Colorado and couldn't walk for two weeks. According the press he was on pain-killers until late January (X Games tournament). Wescott said due injuries he wouldn't have started another Championship. Fortunately or not, the next point on the program were Olympic Games. He won the final only half board length against Robertson. As he said, he didn't missed the start – the crucial moment of whole ride. Wescott rode in the fourth ride along with Ramoin, Robertson, Holland and Robert Fagan, another Canad! ian who didn't make it into the final race.

Arrest warrant for American cyclist Landis due to computer hacking by Zuzana Zelenakova
In 2006, the American cyclist Floyd Landis was stripped of the winning title of Tour de France after his anti-doping test results came out positive less than a week after the race. To enhance his performance he took a dose of synthetic testosterone. Now, the French judge Thomas Cassuto from Paris suburd of Nanterre has issued an arrest warrant on Landis due to computer hacking at the Chateney-Malabry anti-doping laboratory back in 2006. In the lab samples of Landis´ urine were tested four years ago. “That means he would be arrested if he came to France,” Astrid Granoux, the prosecutor´s spokeswoman from Nanterre office. Landis argued that the lab did ! not carry out the anti-doping test properly and the results cannot be trusted. In the aftermath, Landis was banned from cycling for two years. On the other hand, the lab´s director Pierre Bordry claimed the data stolen from the computer were manipulated so that the lab would seem to have made errors. "It seems that (Landis) made all he could to enter into our computer system to try to prove the laboratory was wrong. He showed many documents he got by hacking to numerous sporting instances," Bordry said. "The judge traced a network of hackers back to the ringleader." A national warrant was issued also for Arnie Baker, Landis´ coach and adviser. "I can't speak for Arnie, but no attempt has been made to formally contact me," Landis said in an e-mail to the Los Angeles Times on Monday. "It appears to be another case of fabricated evidence by a French lab who is still upset a United States citizen believed he should have the right to face his accusers and defend himsel! f." Landis returned back to cycling last February at the Tour ! of Calif ornia. After the discovery of the computer breach the French lab improved its security computer systems.

Winter Olympic Games are the most watched program on the TV these days. Every country around the world is keep its fingers crossed for their sportsmen and any won medal is widely celebrated. It’s no surprise, as a medal from Olympics is a worldwide success. In snowboard cross three medals went to Canada, France and Switzerland. Canadian Maelle Ricker won the women’s snowboard cross gold medal. This 31-year-old women became the first Canadian woman who won a gold medal at home in the Olympics. But she was also lucky. When she fell on the first qualifying run and the weather conditions were threatening to cancel the second and final qualifying run, her qualificati! on was in danger. Fortunately the decision was made to carry on with the qualifying, so Ricker finally qualified in third place. As she said: “The first run was a disaster. But I went back up to the start, I refocused, I visualized. Just thought about my lines and threw down a solid run and stayed on my feet and stayed balanced.” And so she won. Desire to win is natural to all humans, but it is even stronger when the victory could make their homeland visible to the rest of the world. The day before U. S. snowboarder Seth Wescott stole the gold medal from Canadian Mike Robertson what was another reason why to win! Ricker turned the tables on Lindsey Jacobellis of the United States. Rain and fog caused that snow was as soft as “mashed potatoes” said Jacobellis. Even though she was very close to Ricker, she lost her balance after a bad landing and so lost also chance to win. But as she added: “It’s definitely not the end of the world for me.! ”

The Second Snowboard Cross Gold Medal for Wescott. by Milota Sidorova
33-year-old American snowboarder Seth Wescott confirmed his mastership in snowboard cross discipline in Whistler on Monday. It is his second gold medal and his second victory since snowboard cross has been included within olympic sports. According the papers, Wescott wasn't expected to win. This season was cited as “average” by the Olympic official web site. He didn't show much of his performance on trials so he was able to get only the fourth start round, watching his rivals go in front.Snowboarders say that the start is the crucial moment in this discipline. Wescott made it perfect and balanced the rest of the track with making no mistake. He overtook Tony Ram! oin of France his team-mate Nate Holland and Canadian Mike Robertson. Nate Holland lost the battle with Robertson and took the last place in four-men Olympic final. As for Wescott, he knew he was regarding Olympics with a medal taste. After he won, he wrapped himself in the U.S. military flag, the same flag he got in Torino, four years ago. The flag is a memory on his grandfather who fought in WWII and represents strong relationship between them. Wescott is not the only one to have kind of amulet. Silver medalist in the 10 km normal hill biathlon Emil Hegle Svendsen is rumored for a visit to a fortune teller before Olympics. She told him he was going to take a medal, but she didn't know the color. She advised him to wear the crystal amulet that he was wearing inside his sport overall. Many other competitions (for example on men's jump) were also wearing the names of their beloved written on the gloves.

The Norwegian ended up 12.2 seconds behind Vincent Jay, Jakov Fak was 14 seconds behind. "All in all, it was an awesome race, and I'm really happy," said right after the race Le Guellec, who was originally hoping for the top ten spot at best. "The crowd was behind me, reacting to each target and it was just awesome to feed off of them."

Two golds for France on the Olympic Games. by Milota Sidorova
Jason Lamy-Chappuis was a certain cause for celebration back in France. Only 23 years old half American half French athlete won a gold medal in Vancouver Olympic Games in the 10 km individual normal hill also called Nordic ski. The discipline is a combination of ski jumping and the cross country run. Lamy-Chappuis was considered a hot spot for a medal, although the difficulty of the track and the weather conditions messed the positions even among champions. He won two bronze medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championship 2009 in Liberec. He could hold the position in the 10 km individual large-hill and 10 km mass-start event. In 2007 he won 7.5 km sprint in Holmenkollen sk! i festival and won two World Cup at Kuusamo and Sapporo in 2006. Still he didn't succeed to make it to Torino Olympic Games the same year.Second golden victory for France was assured by Vincent Jay who despite of desperate weather conditions won in the 10 km men sprint biathlon event. As usually in occasions like this Jay profited from his early running number and clear shooting. The weather remained relatively sufficient for the two thirds of his ride. The third lap the heavy snow mixed with the rain started to fall and caused real troubles to rivals. 24 years old athlete is an Olympic debutant in this discipline. The silver went to Norwegian Emil Hegle Svendsen and bronze stayed for Croatian Jakov Fak. Jay finished in 24 minutes and 7.8 seconds. Hegle Svendson lost 12.2 seconds and Fak 14 seconds on the first position.
