England won over Italy 17-12 in Rome
by Magdalena Rosova

After a tight game England finally overcame a stubborn host Italy 17-12 in their Six Nations clash at the Stadio Flaminio last Sunday. Italy got as close as ever to its first victory against England. Italians played really great and the thrilling game kept fans on the edge of their seats for the whole time. Jonny Wilkinson played an important part in the exciting game as he missed two penalties and a conversion, all from good positions. In spite of Jonny's ridiculous performance, England captain Steve Borthwick said that the English game had been impressive. Borthwick's position as captain was threatened, but manager Martin Johnson re-appointed him a week before the firs! t match. England is determined to win every match and now the team have won the second one. According to Borthwick, the English team had realized Italy was big rival and therefore they had been prepared for tough match. Borthwick added that breaks by Ugo Monye and Delon Armitage down the flanks had been fantastic and England had played some outstanding rugby. Apparently, Italy did not take lesson from the previous match against Ireland as it did not improve the line-out which was Italy's mayor problem in the previous game. The game reminded of ping-pong at times, but England made a couple of really good breaks. For a while Italy took the lead when it won quick line-out ball in England's 22, but Italy's hopes were hit six minutes after the restart when Armitage sent the ball to Tait to streak home. Italy did not managed to make a decisive break and lost the game.
