Will Europe win Ryder Cup?

It seems like Europeans has never been as competitive as they are now. And the cause is the Ryder Cup. Ryder Cup Matches, as it is officially called, is a golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States. It is contested every two years so there is no surprise the teams are always doing their best to win. After all, it is about terrestrial pride! And pride is also the only thing players can win as they receive no prize money. What is more, Ryder Cup brings in tens of million dollars in TV and sponsorship what makes it unique not only in the world of golf, but also in the world of professional sports themselves. The competition began following an exhibition m! atch in 1926, but the first competition took place one year later. While in the past it was clearly US-UK matter, since 1979 European team has included players also from Spain, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy and Sweden. In this year’s Ryder Cup Europe needs to win only five of 12 singles match to reclaim the gold trophy. As European captain Colin Montgomerie said: “In my time – 20 years since I’ve been playing Ryder Cup – this is one of the greatest days for European golf we’ve ever had.” Lee Westwood teamed with Luke Donald tried to demoralize Woods and Steve Stricker, who had never lost in six previous matches. “I supposed he’s got nothing to win – apart from the point – but he’s got a big reputation.” said Westwood about Tiger Woods. Europe team trust itself quite intensely. It is obvious from Montgomerie’s words: “We know the Americans are going to come out fast. But we are going ! to go out faster.”
