33-year-old American snowboarder Seth Wescott confirmed his mastership in snowboard cross discipline in Whistler on Monday. It is his second gold medal and his second victory since snowboard cross has been included within olympic sports. According the papers, Wescott wasn't expected to win. This season was cited as “average” by the Olympic official web site. He didn't show much of his performance on trials so he was able to get only the fourth start round, watching his rivals go in front.Snowboarders say that the start is the crucial moment in this discipline. Wescott made it perfect and balanced the rest of the track with making no mistake. He overtook Tony Ram! oin of France his team-mate Nate Holland and Canadian Mike Robertson. Nate Holland lost the battle with Robertson and took the last place in four-men Olympic final. As for Wescott, he knew he was regarding Olympics with a medal taste. After he won, he wrapped himself in the U.S. military flag, the same flag he got in Torino, four years ago. The flag is a memory on his grandfather who fought in WWII and represents strong relationship between them. Wescott is not the only one to have kind of amulet. Silver medalist in the 10 km normal hill biathlon Emil Hegle Svendsen is rumored for a visit to a fortune teller before Olympics. She told him he was going to take a medal, but she didn't know the color. She advised him to wear the crystal amulet that he was wearing inside his sport overall. Many other competitions (for example on men's jump) were also wearing the names of their beloved written on the gloves.
