Chris Cantell Discusses Sports: España gana Eurocopa 2008 by Veronika Pellerova

Chris Cantell behadelt Die Sportarten: Noch einmal: Federer vs. Nadal im Wimbledon by Barbora Haramiova
Endlich...

Chris Cantell Discusses Sports: Ušte eden pat: Federer protiv Nadal na Vimbldon by Zivka Deleva
I dvajcata igrači stignaa do finaleto mnogu lesno bez niedna zaguba.
Pred finalniot meč Nadal izjavi: "Ne e važno vo nitu eden turnir koj ke go pobedite. Važno e da go odnesete trofejot doma. I sega negoviot son e ispolnet.

Chris Cantell Discusses Sports: Spanieli vyhrali EURO 2008 by Lucia Adamova

Chinese people are very arduous. At least I have such a feeling. They always remind me those little red ants. They are living all together in the big ant kingdom, together working on its blooming, building and protecting it – everything all together. Anything what seems as a good idea for their kingdom is good for them as well and that's why it must be done. So when the Ant Kingdom is preparing a big event and lot of ants from other ant kingdoms are expected to come, little red ants have to prepare themselves. They must show their kingdom in the best light. They are doing their best to show to the rest of ant's world that their kingdom deserves their appreciation. The same is going on in China. Their preparation have no end and I think that until the whole evening has its end, China never stop with preparations. Just like a little red ants – still moving, still doing something. Incredible. This time they are trying to clean the Chinese air. The number of 3.3 million cars on the roads is quite noticeable (even when you look at the sky). So the government decided to reduce Beijing's foul air pollution before the start of Olympics. It's pretty amazing and fascinating, especially when the plan says about 63 percent of emissions which should be reduced. How do they want to achieve it? Easily. When you drive your car on days when you shouldn't, you will be fined $14. So it is not as optimistic and romantic as in the ant's kingdom I would say. Traveling by bus or subway in such a hot weather instead of sitting in my own car with air conditioning, well I don't know if I would agree with that. Of course, Chinese people have no other choice. Unless they want to pay fine. So I hope that the Chinese government is able to fulfill their plan and clean the air as they want.

Michelle Wie facing men on the field by Claudia Sonea
Do you remember Michelle Wie from the LPGA Tour? Well, I do because I thought that disqualifying her was stupid. Although she left the scoring area without signing the score card after Friday’s second round, she played well enough and a win or a high finish would have ensured her a spot in top 80 LPGA players this year and thus enough money for an exemption for the next year tour. Why were the LPGA Tour officials so hard on her? Beats me! Michelle Wie is nevertheless a fighter and will not give up. After last year she had both her wrists injured and didn’t succeed more than two cuts, this year she showed big improvements at the State Farm Classic in Illinois. Moreover, she shooed away speculation about her participating only in women’s competition by joining the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open and competing against men. The PGA Tour officials said it is her first time in the tournament this year and they are happy to give her this opportunity that she considers to make her a better player. On July 31 the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open starts at Montreux Golf & Country Club- one of the weakest fields on the PGA Tour. Michelle has to win at least $80,000 so that she can assure a 2009 LPGA Tour card. If at the U.S. Women's Open in Minnesota she said she will not pursue the competition because it interferes with school, now after being disqualified she changed her mind (she attends Stanford part time). At the age of 18, her seventh and final LPGA Tour event of this year at the CN Canadian Women's Open in August will sort things out for her. On the field she swings the cross and seems to be determined to win. She will not give up her dream and the all thing left to say is: Good luck!

Beijing is getting a new appearance thanks so Olympics by Petra Kamenicka
Each big city has its own amazing building, which attracts tourists from all over the world. Thanks to Olympics, Beijing has become a new, modern appearance. Several breath-taking buildings have been constructed during recent years. Probably the most interesting demonstrations of modern architecture are two buildings, which look like high-rise skyscrapers, leaning a little bit and holding each other around shoulders. The buildings are creating a complex. Its construction was so difficult, that creating such a building was not possible several years ago. Construction such an unusual building would be a significant structural challenge anywhere in the world, but it is especially so in Beijing- a highly seismic zone. It took a lot of hours to demonstrate structural stability. It is an exhibition of modern architecture and construction technologies, 10.000 tons of steel were used. The building will be a headquarters of China Central Television and Television Cultural Centre. In the first building, seat of China Central Television, there will be administration, broadcasting, studios and programme production- the entire TV process as an interconnected activity. In the second building, a seat of Television Cultural Centre, there will be also hotel, a visitor’s centre, a large public theatre, and some exhibition areas. The winning design for the tower was selected in 2002. The construction of this building started in 2004, in September, 22 groundbreaking took a place. Nowadays, the eye-catching building is nearly finished. The entire structure and façade will be completed before the start of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Building was designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas

Asafa Powell, well-known Jamaican sprinter, beat on Tuesday in Stockholm, Sweden his rival and current 100 metres record holder Usain Bolt. 21 year old Bolt did not have a successful start and even afterwards was not able to catch up with his older 25 year old sports colleague who timed wonderful 9.88 second. Asafa Powell held the world record in the 100 m from June 2005 to May 2008. At the Reebok Grand Prix in New York City was his reign ended after almost three years by Bolt who is also from Jamaica and who managed the track in 9.72 seconds. “I had a good start and I managed to maintain my speed to the end,” Powell said after the race. And how Bolt coped with the defeat? Well, he seemed to maintain his confidence, it was a bit of disappointment though: “That doesn´t change anything,” was his simple statement. “I was disturbed by the false start. I could not focus on 100 percent.” “Am I going to do the double in Beijing? It is my coach Glen Mills who will decide,” he commented on what interests the sports fans most these days. However, there were also other great performances in Stockholm although the confrontation between Powell and Bolt stayed in the spotlight. The Cuban hurdler Dayron Robles fell just 0,04 seconds outside his 110 metres world record time from Ostrava, Czech Republic. Still he achieved time of 12,91, which is the fourth fastest time in history. The two Americans David Oliver and Aries Merritt made it just behind Robles. Young Sudanese runner Abubaker Kaki won the men´s 1,000 metres with time 2:13:93 and got the Dickson Trophy. “It was my first 1,000 (outdoors) ever,” he said. “I tried to beat the world record, but it´s very hard to beat. Still, I´m very happy with my performance.”

Use the word “extreme” properly, please by Barbora Misakova
Is it only my opinion or did it notice also someone else, that extreme sports are mentioned so often these days? Few years ago when someone mentioned some kind of extreme sport such as bungee jumping or snowboarding he was some kind of hero. Because at that time extreme sports were really extreme and only few individuals were able to try it. These days a word “extreme” has no meaning at all – no stress, no high blood pressure, no heart beating. Nothing. It seems to me like every kind of sport was called extreme sport. Like just a fact that a kid is riding a bike somewhere in the forest makes it an extreme matter. Just like the fact that some 11-year-old boy was trying archery made him an extreme sportsman. I know it is good when kids are doing some sport, it is good for their health and so on, but call it an extreme sport is a bit unreasonable. Just because two high schools are doing some competition where the kids are taking part in wall climbing, archery, mountain biking and three wheeled go-carts doesn't make from these event a competition in extreme sports, does it? First of all – which kind of school would take such a responsibility on its shoulders for kids trying doing some kind of extreme sport? I would bet that no one – this is the first reason why the word “extreme” is wrongly used. The second reason is that wall climbing can do also a 6-year-old kid, so some high school students shouldn't have problems with it neither. And mountain climbing – if you think these kids are driving their bikes on high and abrupt rocks then you are wrong. They just take out their bikes for a slow walk through little forest hills. I don't want it to sound as disregard, not at all. I just want people to use the word “extreme sports” in cases when it is needed and truthful.

Chris Cantell Discusses - Extreme Sports: Hunstanton: a place for lovers of extreme sports by Petra Kamenicka
In Hunstanton, there was planned an exciting weekend for all lovers of extreme sports and curious visitors. The 2008 Summer Olympic games will be held in Beijing, People's Republic of China from August 8 to August 24, 2008. The program will contain 302 events, including nine new events. NBC is currently preparing a big research in an attempt to measure consumption of the Olympics coverage. The coverage will be much higher than 171 hours available 12 years ago, because it will extend to coverage on NBC, Telemundo, USA, Oxygen, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo and online and mobile video streaming. The aim is to discover how many people are watching Olympics in other ways besides TV. NBC will cooperate with Nielsen Media Research and it will use a tool called Total Audience Measurement Index too. NBC plans to perform daily survey of 500 people. Additionally, group of 40-50 people will wear a measurement device owned by Integrated Media Measurement Inc. (IMMI). IMMI tracks media 24 hours a day including media that other research companies can't accurately measure such as television viewing outside the home, radio, DVDs, audio CDs , theatrical films, live concerts and sporting events, cell phone videos and games. The final summary is likely to be made in New York and Cleveland and combine all the used methods. NBC has also asked people about their attitude to the Tibet protests. Alan Wurtzel, NBC Universal research chief said that 90 % of respondents said that it has no impact on viewing Olympics. Another survey showed that 75-80 % of those surveyed want to watch at least some of the Olympics, what is a similar number to the previous Olympic games held in Athens.

Santa Sangre And the Holy Beasts! by Milota Sidorova
On the days like this, everything goes wild. Sun heat is burning out the city streets, where people go mad. Along the fires boosting this living hell, all the dancing folks point down the cathedral of San Joan, where this fiesta speeds up into the chaotic mass of drinking, dancing and celebration.Tomorrow doesn't exists. As the white stones are flowing through the air, the windows of hundreds of years old building crash down. Massive applause from the bottom has suddenly mingled with angel's choirs.Smell of sweat and wine. Swelling music overloads throngs. Fire stones. Tension. The cathedral is on fire! General madness toughens by every scream of drunken adoration.Spain is on fire! Santa Sangre.Despite of living in highly technological and strictly logical 21st century, there is something genuinely wild inside of human nature. Our civilization has kept this purely beautiful feature locked during the centuries. However, by virtue of science, policy, religion and progress, our dark side has spread its deadly wings all over the world. While we prevent from looking barbarian, the rule of the nature, where the law is still standing on the side of the stronger, is still the most powerful one. We behave like they did!Blood has been clearly chasing our history. And the original, despite brutal traditions have remained. They have even became glorified. Touristic highlights. Fights. Sweat and blood. Let's pass the city gate of medieval city of Spanish Pamplona, where the risk throws itself into the victory or failure. City of red color adores more than 700 hundred years old tradition of bull running and fighting. And the main feast of San Fermin (that however logically takes place in the middle of October) is held in Pamplona just these days. By now plenty of music, dancing, drinking, street theatre create fertile underground for everyday's bull run. Thousands of runners gathers around the corral at Santo Domingo where the bulls are kept. By the time of 8 a.m. Three or four minutes hell starts up. Excited bulls are released into the crowd filling 825m route through the narrow streets of Pamplona. Men even women dressed in traditional white trousers and shirts with red handkerchief stiffed around their necks are escaping, chasing and thrilling nervous animals, running into the bull's ring, where they end their lives in the afternoon fight event.Despite of decades of injured and 14 dead ones, there is no such force that would stop this tradition. No environmental groups nor political leaders can bring Spain to abandon it's heritage.Still it seems human creature needs its own, even a small piece of time and space to prove and release all these dormant beasts, so prohibited from civilized life in civilized culture.

It's exactly 30 days before controversial Olympics in Beijing shines up its flame, the press is full of discussions and negotiations about sorts of sport topics. National teams have to close up theirs final lists. While thousands of blogers blame political and social circumstances, there are still China natives who don't even know that something like Olympic Games are taking place in their country. Finally there is the group of those who discuss new coming events above all, BMX bicycle riding, that as it's said is a summer backup to winter snowboard freestyle. Some say it's the lack of danger, that is necessary for the audience and for athletes as well. However it is, let's just focus on BMX riding for a while. It has been almost 5 years since the IOC Executive Committee had decided to include BMX into official Olympic event list.BMX originates in the late 1960's in California, when the motocross became popular sport in the USA. It was more than just a new sport, it was kind of revolution against basketball and football monopoly in the U.S. Soon it became so significant, that it has been included into the program schedule of Union Cycliste Internationale. So the rules did. Competitors race on circuits of around 350 meters, jumping showing their tricks in a time limit, approximately around 35 seconds. Eight riders compete in each hear, with the top four qualifying for the next round.Although considered more masculine, U.S. Team holds position for lone female Jill Kintner. Woman adoring parachutes, cliff hanging and other adrenalin madness. However, she declares she wasn't afraid of many things, she had to work out a little all those high jumps with 40 m.p.h.speeds.Nevertheless, we are going to see some crashes during the event. But the community seems to be finally satisfied. It is also a hope for another street sports including skateboarding, kiteboarding and parkour to gain international repute.

I have a little problems with remembering all my dreams. I know I dream every night, but when I wake up in the morning I can't remember anything. And that's a pity, because some of my dreams are really cool. The last time I remember, I was dreaming about living in the universe. Don't know why I had such a dream, but the truth is, that lot of people used to think and sing about it, and some of them even believe it is possible. Living in the universe or at some particular planet is a question which is occupying people's mind for a long time. Not only scientists of 21st century but also antic philosophers were thinking about the life out there. Such a big space where the planets are flying freely, where the sun and moon are shining in the calm and quiet melody. Infinite questions and probable predictions lead lot of scientists to long lasting research projects. Questions such as "Is it possible to live on the Mars?" or "What are those blurs on the Moon?" were always fascinating people. And just the question if is it possible to live at one of these planets is the main driving mechanism of all researches. Another research just began. On June 30, Cassini with his co-operators started his two-year tour which could bring another answers about one of the most mysterious planet & Saturn. Except Saturn's ring which is full of answers by itself, Cassini was a witness of several electrical storms there. These so called monster storms are not called so just like that. They are able to produce 10,000 times more powerful lightning than any storm we could see on Earth, and they can span thousands of miles. Well honestly, I like storms but only when I am sitting safely at home and drinking hot black tea with lemon. I admit that I have a big respect. That's why the idea I am living on a planet where every single storm is much more powerful than the strongest one on the Earth leads me to nervous breakdown. Of course scientist are making other researches and they are not only trying to find out if the life there is possible. But in their deep subconscious they are looking an answer on this question as well.

Chris Cantell Discusses : ¿Olimpiadas De Londres - la antorcha no viajará? by Veronika Pellerova

Chris Cantell behadelt : Londoner Olympiade - Ende des Fackellaufs? by Barbora Haramiova
Vielleicht schockierend, jedoch wahr.

Chris Cantell behadelt : Londoner Olymp ohne Fackel? by Clara Hrabovec
