French Open is over for Swiss star
by Zuzana Zelenakova

Swiss tennis star Roger Federer, who has won 16 Grand Slam titles so far in his career, was defeated in the 2010 French Open quarterfinals by Sweden´s Robin Soderling. Tuesday night match at Court Phillipe Chartier sent Federer packing for way home after losing 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 to the Swede. Federer is already the second defending champion that Soderling brought down. Last year, he defeated Rafael Nadal in the fourth round of Roland Garros and thus ended his four-time champion winning streak. He was then defeated by Federer in the final. It seems the number seven in the ATP rankings has improved over the year. During Tuesday match he held Federer back by his powerfu! l strokes and did not let him to come out of the defensive. "I'm disappointed to a certain degree," Federer said. "I didn't think I played a bad match. He came up with some great tennis. It's much easier to digest this way." Apparently, Federer was not as comfortable with the weather conditions as Soderling. The match was interrupted twice due to rain. "He had some chances in the second set," Soderling said. "When I won the second set, which was very big for me, I really felt I could relax a little bit. After that I started to play better and better." Soderling´s next opponent is Czech Tomas Berdych, who beat Mikhail Youzhny, ranked 11th, 6-3, 6-1, 6-2. For Berdych it is the first grand slam semi-final in his career. With Federer out of the game Rafael Nadal has a good chance to return to the post of number one, if he wins the tournament of course. If the Spaniard will play his way to the final, as it is expected, in Sunday afternoon match he well face either Soderling! or Berdych.
