After competing, Memmel reveals broken ankle
by Paulina Neshybova
During the Olympics, Chellsie Memmel injured her right ankel, and the injury was worse than they expected. Chellsie Memmel told others abouth her broken ankle after they had won the silver medal, and people did not know that she was competing with such a big injury. She hurt her ankle during the training at the Olympics on August 4th, but finally the only way where she could compete was on uneven bars in preliminaries and in the team´s finals on Wedensday, too. She had hurt herself while practicing her floor exercise routine and eventually suffered a fracture. They had to make an X-rays, because she could not even stand. And the result was – broken.
She does not have much luck, as she had been out of competing for the last two years because of her injury of shoulder, which required a serious surgery operation. But in spite of beeing injured, she finished on the national championship and the Olympic trials behind reigning world champ Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin. She was expected to be in all four events during Olympics, but this case was not anymore possible, because of her quite serious injury.
Her mother , Jeanelle Memmel said, that her daughter would never want to end up, even when she is injured, Therefore she continued in competeing, so she would not dissapoint her team members. She once had an injury on her shoulder and kept competing on the championship, therefore her team memebrs had faith in her and knew she would not give up. They knew she would do anything for the team. Now, even when China won the gold medal, they are satisfied with the silver one.
