Bravo Laura!
by Zivka Deleva

If I admire people, I admire the bravest! My new hero is the 14-year old Laura Dekker from Netherlands that aims to travel the whole world and set the world record and become the youngest solo sailor to do round-the-world tour. Being so young, she had attracted media's and children social institutions of how moral is her voyage and how bad would this trip influence on her emotional development. The girl has announced her plan a year ago and her dream can start coming true, after a month ago, a Dutch family court allowed her to start her trip. One would say that the girl is crazy, but if you know that she was born on a boat in the port of Whangarei, New Zealand while her p! arents were travelling for seven years! Laura had spent the first four years at sea, and two years later she had her own boat, called Optimist. She has had shorter trips on her own, but not all the countries have allowed her to be alone, they asked for her father to accompany her. The plan for the round-the-world trip is to last two years. If she succeeds, she is going to take over the record from Australian Jessica Watson that had 16 years and 362 days. Her plan is to have about 26 stops, she had already had one stop, in Portugal. She is going to be monitored in the Netherlands. Even the education is organized for the 14-year old girl/ An institution is going to provide her with material for self-learning. To avoid the hurricane seasons, Laura is going to fly home to study. "I am not really afraid. I am very happy" - she said, while she was leaving the Den Osse port. May God be with you Laura and help you through your vision!
