And French football goes on...

It is still quite fresh in our memories how French representative football player Nicolas Anelka dropped a brick by his foul-mouthed outburst at then coach Raymond Domenech at the World Cup. And he will probably remember it forever, as French Football Federation decided to ban his from 18 national team matches. French Football Federation disciplinary commission decided that would be the best punishment for his rude words and behavior. This decision ended up Anelka’s international career all but officially. World Cup captain Patrice Evra has neither reason to smile. The commission decided to hand him out a five-match ban. Three matches were banned to vice-captain Franc! k Ribery and one match to Lyon midfielder Jeremy Toulalan. While Evra and Ribery were punished for not performing their duties properly as captain and vice-captain, Toulalan was punished for his statement which was before the disciplinary commission humiliatingly read out by Domenech. Eric Abidal, who was called before the commission for refusing to play in the final group match against South Africa, was afterward declared innocent and was absolved. Former deputy managing director of the team Jean-Louis Valentin said: “I sensed that the players are truthfully sorry, and been left damaged and mortified at what took place, they were conscious of a collective meltdown. As a lover of the French team, and as a supporter of the France team, I think that each player has the right to a second chance.” On the other hand Anelka, who had already intimated that he would not play for France again, is suing L’Equipe newspaper for defamation for misquoting. As it seems, ! everyone is doing what is good at.
