Slovakia a new symbol of defeat for Italy

The defending champions Italy surprisingly and unexpectedly exit the World Cup on Thursday after terrible defeat from Slovakia 3-2. Italian coach Marcello Lippio took full responsibility for the loss. Four years ago Italians could not believe they had became world champions, now they can't believe they are out. It is not difficult to find out what caused the failure of Italian team. Long time before they even arrived in South Africa, everyone knew that the team's main problem is scoring goals. This problem popped up also Thursday afternoon when Italy was defeated by Slovakia 3-2. This way Italy joined France, which is also out of game thanks to problems inside the team. Ita! ly was in bad position even before the match with Slovakia and it was thanks to draws with Paraguay and New Zealand, both ended 1-1. Even though Italy had good defense, they were not able to score and push the ball forward. Italians were not able to break down the defenses of the opponents. Italy was criticized for lack of creativity, flair and disability to create scoring opportunities. The problem is also that the coach probably did not choose good players. Among strikers there is no one who would be able to create goal opportunity to his partner. Coach Azzuri did not want to take any risk which at the end cost him the most. The team tried to rely on its traditional strengths, good defense and ability to create a goal out of nothing. However, few mistakes in the defense cost Italy place in the final 16 of the World Cup.
