FIFA Qualifiers
by Claudia Sonea

Millions of people are now anxious waiting to see who will qualify for the next round of the World Cup. Brazil is definitely the star of the show, being unbeatable on the field and with a force just like a hurricane. The players’ performance thrilled not only the audience, but also the soccer fans glued to their TVs, radios, notebooks, etc. In the group stage the two finalists of the 2006 World Cup, France and Italy, were a disappointment as they left the competition after suffering shameful defeats. Mexico swept the field with France, while Italy ended up bottom of Group F following a 3-2 defeat with Slovakia. Nonethe! less, the fans were entertained by the surprises of the tournament like Mexico and Korea Republic. The soccer team that impressed the most at the World Cup 2010 was of course Brazil. In fact the History of World Cup is closely linked to the country as Brazil participated to seventeen World Cups taking the title five times and being vice-champion in two editions. The Brazilian team had no defeats and all the games played were spectacular. Midfielder Kaka, Luis Fabiano, Elano and the other players succeeded in bring six points from Portugal and Ivory Coast, as well as bringing the team on the first position in Group G. All eyes are now on Denmark and Japan as the teams will dispute the second position on field. Following their match, the fans will finally have a list with those going through the next stage. Don’t go away, more to come…
