8 teams to enter the quarter-finals

World Cup 2010 is heading rapidly towards a denouement and soccer fans all over the world are getting more and more anxious to see which of the teams is going to get the crown. The 19th tournament was definitely one of the most exciting with surprising performances, twist of fates and first time events: an African country hosted the finals; Slovakia and Serbia qualified as independent nations; FIFA made payments to the domestic clubs; Paraguay qualified for the quarter-finals; for the first time a country (Ireland) asked to take part as the 33rd participant. Who qualified for the Quarter-finals following the matches ! that took place from 26 to 29 of June? After 4 days of thrilling matches, crushed hopes, desperation, disappointment, anxiety, mad happiness, the list with the last 8 teams is finally complete: Uruguay, Ghana, Germany, Argentina, Netherlands, Brazil, Paraguay, and Spain. After Germany defeated England with an overwhelming score of 4-1, Argentina gave a 3-1 blow to Mexico and Brazil sent home Chile without even giving them the opportunity to score a goal in the 3-0 match. Spain had a marvelous performance at this edition of FIFA World Cup winning 29 of their last 31 matches. However, the best match was against Portugal, a fierce team with a record of 19 undefeated matches in a row. The man of the match Xavi just recovered from an ankle injury, but he ran on the field and pushed the Portuguese in their half giving the Spaniards an overwhelming possession of the ball and plenty of opportunities to score. Next, they will meet Paraguay, a first ti! mer in the quarter-finals that barely managed to get through t! he Japan ese soccer players. Will they win and get into the semi-finals?
