England defeated by old rival

England is out of the World Cup! Millions of England soccer fans watched the match that would shatter their World Cup dreams. However, they were accustomed to this sort of disappointment as it also happened in 2002, when in the quarter-final match Brazil won over England with a 1-2 score. Is there any hope left for Britain’s soccer team? As usual escape goats will be pointed out and mainly the blame will go to the renowned manager Fabio Capello for not being an Englishman. The truth is that the English team was no match for the Germany’s slickness, fast movement and clin! ical finishing. On the field the players are responsible for their performance, no matter what strategy the coach adopts. As far as the fans are concerned some the English team that qualified for the World Cup was totally different than the one that seemed helpless against German players’ attacks. Although they had the ball plenty of times, England just didn’t manage to get close enough to the rival’s gate, while their poor defense ultimately led to their defeat. The players were rather heavy in movement and barely managed to keep pace with the young German players who looked dashing on the field with slick coordinate kicks and fast movements. The victory obtained against England might be overshadowed by puerile thoughts that the match would have had another ending if the Uruguayan referee Jorge Larrionda had not disallowed Lampard’s goal (bounced off the bar ! and barely behind the goal line). But the score was an overwhe! lming 4- 1, thus Germany would have been without a doubt the winner on the field. Bravo to them and good luck ahead!
