Swiss star Federer defeated by Ernests Gulbis at Rome Masters

Roger Federer suffered a surprising defeat at the ATP Rome Masters on Tuesday. The man who scored over the winner of 16 grand slam titles is 21-year-old Latvian Ernests Gulbis, currently ranked as 40th. However, Federer did not seem to be worried at all by the defeat. "It is easier to take because I'm used to winning so much so that sometimes when you get a loss ... you can't always win and sometimes it takes a loss to wake up and sort of shake your mind up and think about how you're going to approach next week," he said. He already played his opponent once in Qatar and won in three sets. He praised the young tennis player and said he has a great potential. Gulbis claimed ! his 2-6 6-1 7-5 win in two hours and three minutes. He comes from a sporting family, his father is former national basketball player and grandfather played on the Soviet Olympic team. Gulbis had always close to basketball, but his parents had something different in mind for him. “They didn’t want me to play team sports — they wanted me to play individual sports,” he commented on his reluctance to give up the ball. “So I started to play with my grandmother.” Gulbis has been working with a new coach since September and it seems Argentine Hernan Gumy is doing his job well. He also hired a new fitness coach. "I just started concentrating more on tennis, treating it more like my job,'' Gulbis said. "Last year I didn't take it as a job. It was more like a hobby. I didn't have a system.“ In other matches, world number three Novak Djokovic defeated French Jeremy Chardy 6-1 6-1, Andy Murray won over Italian Andreas Seppi 6-2 6-4 and Australi! an Lleyton Hewit, who recovered from hip surgery only recently! , beat M ikhail Youzhny 6-4 4-6 6-3.
