Behind the noise and glimpse of World Cup
by Milota Sidorova
Going to World Cup is a real fun for someone, but for the citizen of western civilization it brings a certain kind of responsibility. Man is not visiting the sole action, he is enjoying the whole circus, the program, visiting the country, literally having his piece of hardly bought paradise. This year, the most prestigious football cup is taking place in South African Republic. For the state itself as for the continent of Africa it will be the chance to show “its”qualities and somehow improve its image. For average European citizen it is representing the picture of smiling black children, colorful dresses and very hot and friendly climate. And because of location! , no one is expecting the prices to climb as high as on Olympic Games. Shortly, one will enjoy the fruits of Africa. But coming to Africa it means to look at its real face as well. It means to watch millions of the poorest level coming to cities with the vision of better future. It means to see illnesses spreading all around, watching millions in the poorest condition possible. It also means to think about governments and human rights. It means to point the attention on environmental problems. Some politicians and famous people are taking this into consideration and by visiting or non-visiting show their opinions. Either acceptance, tolerance or disagreement.By coming to South African Republic, once British colony, the country still fighting apartheid, it rules twice as more. Although it will be showing its best face, we shouldn't come there as ruling white-men. We shouldn't act like low minded tourists on cheap vacations. Because once it were white men throwing domestic peo! ple into slavery and disgrace. We should see behind the attract! ions of World Cup. Maybe we should notice removing the people into metal camps, outside the cities, just to make the city look clean for us.We should take into consideration each drop of water, each plate of meal served, because of millions out there dying from hunger.I don't say, block the Cup, but behave like conscious visitor, showing mercy and kindness to real South African Republic.
