His Excellancy, former IOC president Samaranch died

Juan Antonio Samaranch has died today at the age of 89. The seventh International Olympic Committee president died from a cardio-respiratory arrest at a hospital in Barcelona. He was hospitalized there yesterday but doctors said right away that the condition was very bad. His health has been worsening these few years. Samaranch was president of the IOC whole 21 year, since 1980. Since the renovation of the modern Olympic Games, only their “father” Baron Pierre de Coubertin had bigger mandate than Samaranch, for 29 years. He was one of the biggest intercessor for Madrid’s candidature for the next Olympic Games in 2012, but London took it away from Spaniar! ds. The attribution of the 2016 Games to Rio de Janeiro, was the event when he was for the last time seen in public, in Copenhagen last October. Samaranch was a giant person that made a lot for the Games that unite the whole world. He made it more interesting for the mass media and in the increasing of their influence of sports. He was born on July 17 in Barcelona into a wealthy family. He got business diploma in his hometown. He has always been a leading person for his county’s sports committees. From an amateur sports athlete to president of the IOC, he has organized a lots of sports events. In 1967, Dictator General Franco named him Government Secretary for Sports. He was Spanish ambassador to the Soviet Union and Mongolia during three years. For his efforts in the support of the Olympic movement, in 1991 the king of Spain Juan Carlos gave him a title of Marquis. He was the first man to win the Seoul Peace Award in 1990. He was known as a capricious man, so he i! nsisted that he would be addressed with the title of Excellenc! y. He al so wanted to be the most luxurious situated wherever he would go. His name was often connected to scandals and corruption. According to Samaranch, the Sydney Olympics were “the best of all time”. Rest in Peace, Your Excellancy!
