Olympique Marseille waited for 17 years for the national triumph

After 17 years longing for the national football trophy, Olympique Marseille finally reached the gold, defeating Girondins Bordeaux. The result was 3-1 and the game took place at Stade de France, so The French League Cup ended. The football players from Marseille dethroned their rivals from Bordeaux decisively. All the goals were reached in the second period of the game, which was expected after the dull first period. The French finals are usually tight when it comes to getting the winner. Though the Girondins had the ball almost all the time, it seems like they didn’t know what to do with it. The defense in the both teams was impressive. Girondins Bordeaux just c! ouldn’t fight more to save their last year’s trophy. Olympique Marseille is been founded in 1899 and this year’s trophy adds to the reach history of the club. One of the best French teams of all the time, and has always been on the top of the League. Marseille has been champion for eight times, has won the Coupe de France ten times. It is the first and only French club to win the UEFA Champions League in 1993. Their home terrain is called Stade de Valedrome and it is in the south of the city and they play at the same stadium since 1937. The clubs motto during the years is been “Straight to the Goal”. Not only success has followed this teams biography. In 1994, some financial irregularities and match fixing scandal, they were forced to the second division. The team stayed there for two years. They also lost the right to play in few important leagues and championships.
