Oh sweet victory
by Barbora Misakova
Well, well. Maybe I am going to be a little bit malicious, when I say it must be very hard for any kind of No. 1 player or team to loose a very important game. They were preparing whole year, nothing was more important than trainings and good strategy. Just lot of work. There was only one aim – get to the final, and then win it! What kind of disappointment must it be when after such a long and challenging period, everything is lost in one hour. You are coming out, people are screaming, waving and smiling, because they are expecting a great match, with even better end. The game started and as the minutes are passing by you are still more nervous, because the game is not developing as you wanted. By the time when you are very slowly realizing, that you are loosing the only thing you was thinking about whole year, you are lost. Maybe Roger Federer felt this way during his Olympic singles match with American James Blake. Don't know what's going on, but it seems like Federer was out of his body. When last month Roger lost his Wimbledon title to Rafael Nadal, Olympic singles medal, which would be his first, could be some kind of satisfaction for him. Unfortunately, the luck was sitting at Blake's shoulder. Even though he lose, he is still in the doubles. The similar adversity (or just worse skills of player?) hit also Serena Williams who lost her quarterfinal match at the Olympics. Her rival was Elena Dementieva of Russia, who is the No. 5-seeded. How degrading must it be for Serena to loose such an important game with Dementieva, who won a Silver in Sydney in 2000. Even bigger must be a shame of the lost sets: 3-6, 6-4 and 6-3. Well, there were a times when Serena and Venus Williams were the best women tennis players and when every single victory was their. Olympics were probably quite surprise for both – players and fans as well. There is probably nothing worse in sport than to strongly believe in the victory and then loose it in a second. related story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080814/ap_on_sp_ol/oly_ten_tennis;_ylt=As66YQo8_JeFlRoZJ7y4sAqs0NUE
