The rugby World Cup ended on Saturday night with the victory of South Africa on Stade de France. It was a good match and the English fought bravely, but the adversary was stronger and more determined to do it. In sport, luck plays an important part and there is only one winner and another chance for the other players. Real sport fans understand that and enjoy a good match and a hard struggle from their favorites than the triumph itself. After the English won against France, everyone celebrated in England and Jonny Wilkinson was a hero. However, when the odds turned against them and did not manage to overcome the South Africans, all the media reflected fans disappointment, because their expectation of repeating the 2003 performance and take the Cup. Every newspaper had headlines like Heartbreak among which Observer, Sunday Times or Sunday Telegraph published breaking articles. They tried to smooth the criticism by talking about pride and the fact that the team has as many weaknesses as qualities. Coach Brian Ashton told the players to leave Paris with their heads high, because after the six-weeks tournament they managed to get to the final, although no one believed they could. Furthermore, from the pathetic lost against South Africa with a score of 36-0 in a pool game at the beginning, they no really did their best and not only that they get to the final, but also succeeded to represent a challenge and the match ended with a score of 15-6. This year England managed to get from nowhere in the rugby World Cup final. Both they and the supporters should be proud of the achievements. Next year will be better and they might even win. We can only hope and wish their best. Don't forget, it's not about winning or losing, it all gets down to the game.

Since the first match in 1987, every four years the world's biggest sporting events takes place & the Rugby World Cup. This is the sixth year of its existence. Quadrennially, a total of twenty nations compete against each other in four different pools (according to the results during the previous cup), each pool consisting of five nations. Then, in the final, the winner and runner-up (first and second place) play against each other in a knock-out stage. This stage consists of quarter-finals, semi-finals and then, finally, finals. The first one ever was held in Australia and was won by England. Since then, England's rugby team had been the favorite. South Africa's Springboks team took part in the cup for the first time in year 1995. That year it was also this country that was hosting the whole cup. The trophy is named after William Webb Ellis, the founder of rugby himself. This year the tournament is hosted by France and there are 94 nations participating. Eight of them were qualified automatically, they won the quarter-finals in 2003 (England, France, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand). Then there are 86 regional qualifiers (from Arica, Europe, Asia, America and Oceania). This year, the world is hoping for the South Africa to beat England and overtake its champion position. The final match will take place on September 20, and the players are feeling pretty confidential after they had beaten Argentineans on October 14. Another issue that keeps them smiling is the recent drop-out of Josh Lewsey due to an injury. Change is good, it might do Africa well, to win the golden cup in the end.

After winning against France (les bleus) with a score of 14-9 on the Stade de France, English rugby team is praised by all those that criticized it during the last four years for its performance. Indeed they did not succeeded to win or to get even to the semi-finals after the winning of the World Cup in 2003. Not few people were surprised for getting into the semi-finals, however they obtained the respect of everyone. All England was celebrating their victory and even Prime Minister Brown had congratulated them. Moreover, they are lucky on all plans, not only on the field, but lately in the Web-based searches too. They knocked down the football team for the first time according to a report on Monday. The team's march towards the World Cup Final brought them a six-fold rise in the number of UK searches said online audience measurement firm Hitwise. Although the firm does not give actual numbers, it revealed a 250 percent increase in the search for the most popular rugby player, flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson. He was the team's hero and got many people to stand up and applaud him. Despite this terrific growth- both in female fans and popularity- rugby still cannot compete with football, the most popular sport in UK. However, things are heading for the best for this sport that had even royal attendance at the game. Prince Harry gasped when the score turned in favor of the English team. Don't go awayâ¦more to come!

After four years of miserables games how Matt Dawson, the retired 2003 World Cup-winning scrum-half said it, England rugby team has finally succeeded to come from nowhere and has obtained a victory against France with a 14-9 score and reaching the World Cup Final. On Sunday all England was celebrating, including the 40000 rugby lovers that were watching the game in the French capital city. Also around 5000 people gathered at the O2 Arena in London for the biggest screening outside Paris. 20 cinemas and giant outdoor screens in Hull, Bradford and Rotherham broadcasted the match. Prime Minister Gordon Brown congratulated the team at the Stade de France. Former Captain Will Carling stated that he was surprised and that England amazed everyone. As for Coach Brian Ashton he was praised by everyone and his decisions were for the first time after the match with Australia and France respected. However, Dawson says that the team still isn't what it should be. Despite all the flaws, he still believes that England has a big chance at the Cup and its adversary, no matter if it will be Argentina or South Africa- the ones that humiliated them in their last match- will be stunned by their performance on the field. Jonny Wilkinson was the hero and both David Walsh in Sunday Times' front page and the Sunday Express are reinforcing his high achievements over the French. Witness at the player's achievements was British Culture Secretary James Purnell too. Moreover, David Cameron, the leader of Britain's main opposition Conservatives was thrilled by the Rugby's team performance. Other achievements in the sport area reveal that Englishmen really keep it fit. Don't go Awayâ¦more to come!

It hits you when you open the door. Even through the tiny slit you can sense the bad energy coming out of that room. 1177E, yes, you're right, this is your apartment. Push the door open. What do you see? Nothing in particular. The air is dusty and dank. The floor is⦠well, if there still IS floor, then it is buried under beer lids, wine corks, cans, few can-openers and beer-etiquettes and colorful straws, kitchen knives, napkins soaked in lime juice and hopefully ketchup, leftovers from magazines about gardening and cars, a rugby ball, bowls with crumbles in them and piles of cigarette stubs and scrunched out cigarettes. Along the walls and table legs there are slathers of bottles and plastic glasses. What a wonderful collection there is though; you recognize foreign or domestic products, some names vibrant with an aura of fame, some local brands purchased at the 7Eleven across the street. The curtains are missing, the blinds are closed. Are those larger objects actually bodies? You "shoulder" into what you remember used to be kitchen two days ago and discover your roommate behind the stove. She knows she should not be drinking after having too many black-outs recently. Her problem is being aware of this ("Never take large gulps!") and therefore drinking too slow & but on an empty stomach. She is watching the morning news and confesses that her boyfriend graduated last night and they had a little celebration. Party had gone out of control when one of the celebrators wrecked two cars at a near-by hotel's parking lot. Right now he is being arrested and his case is being inquired. You know him, she says, he plays rugby and lost to France over a week ago. And as I watch Doug Howlett, the famous All Blacks winger apologizing to his fans, I realize what a terrifying fact that is & that simply due to drinking ethanol even an amazing thing (as a human mind is) can get out of control and ruin everything.

Globetrotters back to its origins by Claudia Sonea
The Harlem Globetrotters is an exhibition basketball team that combines athleticism and comedy. Created by Abe Saperstein in 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, the team took the name of Harlem due to the major Afro-American community. They played more than 20000 exhibition games in 118 countries, mostly against teams that were intentionally bad like Washington Generals (1953- 1995) and New York Nationals (1995- present). On Tuesday, they ended one of the longest tours in basketball history and they played for the first time in 20 years in the black neighborhood of Harlem, New York. In front of 500 students at the Harlem Armory Center they defeated once more the Washington Generals with a score of 54 to 50. The entire game was foreplay to the upcoming tour "Magic as Ever" and introduced new players like Special K, The Blenda and Sweet Pea. Tex Harrison, 74, a former Globetrotter from 1954 to 1972 said it's amazing and he reminds everything about the game: their usual tricks of sinking very long shots, funny dribbling and the always crowd-pleasing water-bucket custom in which a bucket of confetti is tossed onto the crowd. In order to catch up with the times, the 81 year old team will launch a reality show looking for the next Globetrotter, according to the official statement of Kurt Schneider, chief executive of the team. Moreover they already elected five players to compete in June for a place in the team. Sun Ming Ming, a 7-foot-9 (2.36-meters) player from China will be one of the contestants. Don't wait anymore, start booking a ticket for the grand opening on 15 November in Sacramento, California, with a four game stand. Enjoy!

Milan's Dida was hit by a Celtic fan by Corina Ciubotaru
The football world has always been one of never-ending quarrels, passions and entertainment, and they almost always come together. The most recent example of all three has happened in the Celtic Glasgow & AC Milan game on Wednesday, when a fan came onto the turf and slapped Milan's goalkeeper Dida across the face after the home team won. The game ended 2-1 for Celtic but the goalie had to be carried out of the field by doctors after he fell to the ground and tumbled dramatically; some say he overreacted and should be punished as little contact was made and he was seen running before falling suddenly, but the subsequent UEFA investigation concerns the Celtic team as well, for not being able to control their own supporters and poor organization. The hearing of the control and disciplinary body is scheduled for Thursday, but the assaulting fan has already been banned for life by Celtic. Even though the 34-year old Brazilian faces punishment from UEFA, he still has his team's support. AC Milan's delegate administrator Adriano Galliani and President Silvio Berlusconi have assured Brazil's goalie that his place in the club is safe and that they stand by him through this tough moment. Coach Ancelotti isn't quite pleased, but both he and the other players say that they support Dida in his decision. The Italian media were quick to judge though, blaming him for the Milan's loss and speculating on his replacement with Juventus star goalkeeper Buffon. Such allegations have also been denied by the club managers.

All Blacks lost the World Cup and disappointed a nation by Corina Ciubotaru
As shocking as it might sound, the All Blacks, New Zealand's rugby team, lost to France in the World Cup quarter final in Cardiff. This time, the Haka wasn't enough to scare the opponents and the game ended 20-18, sending the Kiwis home in disgrace. The battle still continues for France who is now set to play against arch enemies England who beat Australia 12-10. Rugby is New Zealand's national sport and the only international sport where they really shine. Between their black equipment and fearsome pre-game ritual, the players are some of the best-trained in the world and are expected to win every game, including the all-important ones in the World Cup. They make great money out of this too, but still seem unable to fulfill their countrymen's hopes. $50 million have been invested in the campaign for this year's Cup, including $7500 per player for every week they are assembled as a team, and eventually, winning the event turned into a national obsession. The pressure on both players and coach was enormous but the disappointment means Coach Graham Henry has got to go. He and his helpers Steve Hansen and Wayne Smith are said to leave the All Blacks after having trained them since 2004, most likely in favor of Robbie Deans, who currently coaches the Crusaders. The new coach's name will most likely be known by Christmas; his mission will not be an easy one, as he will be in charge of both rehabilitating New Zealand in the world of rugby and winning the World Cup after more than 20 years.

Germany-Brazil ended 2-0 in the women's World Cup final by Corina Ciubotaru
Germany's women soccer team won the World Cup this year, thus becoming the first team to ever hold the title for two years in a row. Not only that, but they managed to end an entire tournament without receiving any goals and that is something really amazing. In the final game against Brazil, the German girls showed how tactics and good defense can guarantee success against flamboyancy and energy. Brazilian star Marta could not score in goalie Angerer's net even during the penalty shot everyone was afraid of, and the game ended 2-0 on Sunday, with goals from captain Birgit Prinz in the 52nd minute and midfielder Simone Laudehr in the 86th. The Germans also broke the Chinese record for the most time without conceding a goal, with 619 minutes since Sweden last managed to score against them 4 years ago. After the game, each team left with hopes: Germany wants to host next year's Cup as a celebration of their amazing tradition and results while Brazil would like to get more sponsors and facilities for the women's soccer teams. Male players are widely known and renowned for their spontaneity and skill; their team is one of the best in the world, but when the women play, people don't pay as much attention. This is what Marta, the top scorer of the tour, and the other girls want to change, and they apparently have the full support of Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who has watched the final on Sunday at 9 a.m.
