This oracle octopus, who shot to fame in the World Cup this summer for his uncanny ability to predict the results of Germany’s soccer matches, has died at his home in Oberhausen. This English-born octopus made headlines across the globe after he correctly forecast how Germany would fare in seven matches. Later, when Paul tipped Spain to beat the Netherlands in the final, his popularity was sealed. Immediately after the match (which Spain really won) Paul has got into the center of attention. Following the World Cup, a Spanish zoo made a transfer bid for Paul, but ! his German keepers refused him to sell. Unfortunately, neither Paul nor his fans enjoyed him for a long time. After few months Paul has passed away at the age of two. Stefan Porwoll, the centre’s manager said: “He appears to have passed away peacefully during the night, of natural causes, and we are consoled by the knowledge that he enjoyed a good life.” Paul will be kept in cold storage until the center decides how to mark the mollusc’s extraordinary life. “We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds and erect a modest permanent shrine.” said Porwoll. But his early death will not be the end of story. As Russian newspaper informed Paul also predicted who would be Russia’s next president in 2012, but for these result we will have to wait a bit. I like watching balloons, and I love when they fly at night resembling fireflies. Although I like balloons and their design, I would probably never try to fly in it. I just can’t believe such a “light” and “small” transportation can fly and carry heavy cargos. Accident that happened Thursday just supports my fear. Veteran balloon pilots – Richard Abruzzo and Carol Rymer-Davis – were participating in the 54th Gordon Bennett Gas Balloon Race. Now they are missing and U.S. together with Croatian search and rescue teams are searching for them. These two American balloonists disappeared in rough weather over the Adriatic Sea, which is di! stant 60 nautical miles from the Croatian coast and 29 from that Italian one. Uninhabited parts of Croatia’s distant are also scanned, but “there is no news so far about the missing balloon.” said Marina Haluzan, the spokeswoman for the Croatian Ministry of the Sea and Transport. Although Croatian and Italian coastal authorities are in touch and cooperate, their balloon, equipped with a satellite telephone, VHF radios, radar transponder and two mobile telephones couldn’t disappear just like that. “They could not possibly still be flying. If they are on land, they must be in a very remote place.” said flight director Don Cameron.
