Voeckler's victory and Schleck failure
by Barbora Misakova

Reason for a little celebration had French professional road bicycle racer Thomas Voeckler on Monday. This France’s national champion, who is racer since 2001, rides for Bbox Bouygues Telecom is considered by many to be France’s sweetheart because of his young looks and his habit of sticking out his tongue in races. In 2003 he captured two stages and the overall title in the Tour de Luxembourg and in 2004 he suddenly came to international prominence in the world of cycling when after seizing the French championship he lightly entered the 2004 Tour de France. The 2005 season and others that followed were quite busy as Voeckler rode many races but it was 2009 when! he gained his first stage win in a Tour de France. From year to year, his success is growing more rapidly. In 2010’s Tour de France Voeckler surmounted the brutal hills of the Pyrenees Mountains to win the 15th stage with a solo ride while defending champion Alberto Contador took the overall lead and the famed yellow jersey. Where one is winner another is a looser and this time it was Andy Schleck of Luxembourg who suffered mechanical failure at a disastrous moment. He had accelerated less than 4 kilometers from the top of the big climb of the day, when he lost his chain. That forced him to stop on the side of the road and wait for assistance. “For sure these guys don’t get the fair play prize today.” said Schleck at Contrador’s expense as he is now holding the yellow jersey by eight seconds from Schleck.
