Give Africa A Chance!

Hundred days separate South Africa from the first historical hosting of the World Cup. The black Continent in which it seems like people are born with the skills of playing football, now has the chance to welcome the world. Johannesburg from June 11, at least for one month, will be the center of the world and all eyes, good and evil, are going to be pointed at the green patch. Organizers say that they are almost ready. Let’s get straight, Africa doesn’t have the experience and the tradition for organizing such an event, but more than any nation in the world, Africans deserve it, because they gave the special magic to the most secondary job in the world! One of ! the problem that native fans are disappointed from is the complex ticketing system! If the aim of FIFA this year is to celebrate African football, then the organization must do anything in it’s power to attract more African fans. It forgot that Africa is not so much into the “global village” and the small use of credit cards, people can not buy online tickets everywhere. For some countries there have been discount rates. If not, fans will have to buy the tickets of 80 dollars. To fill stadiums, ticket kiosks have been opened in South Africa and tens of thousands of tickets have recently been made available to local fans at the specially low price of 20 dollars. 2.3 million tickets had been sold, out of 2.9, worldwide. Everybody prays that Nelson Mandela, the father of the South African nation, would be able to come to the opening and see one of his dreams coming true. The country has invested so much, not only financially, but emotionally as well, not to a! llow the historical chance to end up as fiasco. It would be u! topia to believe that all the eager problems of this continent, like poverty, criminal, AIDS will be gone, but, at least in one month, Africa should forget and celebrate together with the world, the sacred sports of football.
