Vancouver Games end in cheers
by Magdalena Rosova

The finale of Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, could not have been more festive. 60,000 people came to see the closing ceremony. In spite of sad events which happened in the first days of the games, the death of a luger in crash during the training, the Olympics ended in huge euphoria. The organizers of the games deserve a tribute, tribute also to the Canadian team, which did not give up and succeeded even after a shaky start. Crowds filled BC Place Stadium for Sunday's closing ceremony. Only few hours before the ceremony, Canadian hockey team beat USA and won gold medal. Canada won total number of 14 gold medals which gave Canadian reason for wild celebration acros! s Vancouver. The joyful closing ceremony differed from the opening one, which was quite peaceful and included moment of silence for Nodar Kumaritashvilli, who died in a crash on the sliding track just few hours before the ceremony. Alanis Morissette, Nickelback and Avril Lavigne were music stars of the ceremony. John Furlong, chief Vancouver organizer, believes the games had made Canada stronger and more united, more in love with their country and more connected to each other than ever before. "These games have lifted us up," he concluded. Fulong further paid tribute to skier Alexandre Bilodeau, the first Canadian who won gold medal at these games. “Your gold medal gave us all permission to feel and behave like champions," Furlong said and added that generations would remember the last one, hockey gold medal. International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge officially pronounced the games closed and during the song of Neil Young, Canadian folk-rock star, ! the Olympic flame faded away.
