Canada on Fire since Sunday
by Milota Sidorova

The last weekend! What a moment for a hockey fan! Olympic games ended with the most spotted final in ice hockey. Since it was held in Canada that was the biggest adept for a gold medal, the result was more than expected. But, Canada almost came under to somewhat unexpected rival, Slovakia that blew off Russia and Sweden, another hot adepts for Olympic gold.Slovak hockey players almost caused hearth attack to 17,000 Canadian fans when they turned the score from 3-0 to 3-2 and the last minutes were attacking the favorite of the match. Canadian hockey players were unable to answer and only the time and the luck decided to push them to the final. As expected the rival was the U.S! . team that dissolved Finnish players in previous match 6:1. Everyone was waiting for the best match of the Games. And it was – it was. Both team showed great portion of ambitions for the best position. Canada, however under the massive pressure from 34 million inhabitants had to win. Or it was thinking so. Although both teams played were equally, Canada started to gain the domination. The U.S. Was still reacting very well, but while Canada pushed two shots behind Ryan Miller, Americans were unable to overcome Luongo that time. The match was played in very tough style with a lot of drastic attacks and less combinations.NHL style of hockey is very simple – it is going forward and attacking the goalie. And that is what we saw. If you were used to appreciate smart attacks, tricks and combinations, you were wrong. Americans were not playing as the team most of the time. Most of the time there was the lonely player attacking three or four defenders, or bunch of playe! rs staying in the wicket. The attacks with four or five player! s making the wall behind the goalie were almost unable to catch – they simply made him blind. But that was the style of the match. After the first third Canada was leading 1:0, then 2:0 until the U.S. Response came. Canadians were on the top, evidently more confident after two goals. That was apparent till the last minutes of the third period. But Americans somehow woke up and less than 10 seconds before the final bell they scored 2:2. Nobody could measure the panic in the hall and between Canadians who had had seen themselves with golden medals hanging from their necks just few seconds before. The extension came and everyone was expecting Americans to bite even harder. Canada suffered the shock. The first minutes were very dramatic and equal. The play was alternately taking place before both wickets until the most unexpected moment, the final Canadian goal came. When we were thinking of last shots to find the winner, Crosby shot the final goal. Canada won with the most tight vi! ctory over the U.S.I believe time stopped in this country on Sunday. However, I must say they deserved it with a great portion of luck.So let's wish a fame to the winner and dignity to the U.S., Finnish and Slovakia teams.
