Chris Cantell Discusses Sports: Ferrari sinks McLaren boat
by Claudia Sonea

A new record in the history of World Motor Sport; unfortunately it is not about a time record, but fine record. The World Motor Sport Council fined the Formula One team McLaren with 100 million dollars, 40 times bigger than the previous F1 record- $2.5 million. The accusation was of stealing leaked secret data from its main rival Ferrari, after in July a 780-page technical dossier on Ferrari cars was found at the home of McLaren's chief designer, Mike Coughlan. Ferrari mechanic Nigel Stepney, who is supposed to have supplied the documents, was fired. According to Dennis, head of the famous corporation, this won't affect McLaren because they are a strong financial company and that the fine is effectively halved due to the fact that they don't have to forfeit any revenue it's earned this season. Also, probably it won't cost them the Formula One drivers' title; McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso escaped punishment Thursday. It is surprising why they would risk so much when they have the best drivers, how well Dennis has stated. Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are well ahead with 92 points and 89 of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen(74) and Felipe Massa(69) with four races left. The sport's governing body (FIA) called a new hearing of the council last week because they found new evidences against McLaren since July and it referred mainly to email traffic between our drivers, and in one instance, Mike Coughlan. Anyway the punishment won't affect them that bad, besides McLaren CEO Martin Whitmarsh will take over the control despite the scandal, according to Dennis. However, Ferrari succeeded to sink McLaren boat at least from the point of view of the fans, the public. Stay connected to see what's happening next.
