Diego and his golden shoe
by Barbora Misakova

Name of the latest football hero of 2010 FIFA World Cup is Diego Forlan. This Uruguayan footballer and winner of the Pichichi Trophy and the European Golden Shoe, was born in the family of great footballers. His father Pablo had played for the Uruguay national football team during the 1966 and 1974 FIFA World Cup and his grandfather played for Independiente in Argentina. Diego who currently plays for Atletico Madrid of La Liga is with no doubt successor and pride of Forlan family. In his youth he was a promising tennis player, but later he decided to follow the family tradition and concentrate on football. That was a good decision, not only for him, but also for Uruguay. Du! e to Forlan’s two goals Uruguay national team beat South Africa on Wednesday 3-0. Forlan’s strike in 24th minute and then a controversial 80th minute penalty was followed by Alvaro Pereira and his header that in last minute rubbed in the JAR defeat. Uruguay with its four points from two games is now in a strong position. South Africa has just one point. “We lost a game where we would have liked at least a draw. The result was not a true reflection of the game. But if we can beat France 1-0 we could go through.” said Carlos Alberto Parriera, coach of South African team. This defeat of South African team was supposedly the worst for a host nation since Mexico lost 4-1 at home to Italy in the 1970 quarter final.
