Beckham not included in the first roster

The 32-year-old footballer, who is currently playing for Los Angeles Galaxy on the midfielder's position, was omitted by England's coach Fabio Capello, when he picked his first roster for next match against Switzerland. Capello thinks that Beckham's lack of match sharpness means he should not be included in the provisional list for the game with Switzerland next Wednesday. "I know there has been a lot of discussion about David Beckham. When I spoke with David on the phone yesterday, I advised him that he is still part of my plans and once he is playing regularly in America, we will look closely at him again," he said to calm his fans. He also said he would consider picking Beckham for the next exhibition game against Switzerland, if he shows good form after opening of the Major League Soccer season on March 29. To stay fit, Beckham has been training with Arsenal during the MLS offseason. Supporters, who belong to the official England fans group, have mobilized in a last-ditch campaign, and decided to make Beckham the England Player of 2007 after his return under McClaren. Following players such as Peter Shilton, Bobby Moore , Bobby Charlton and Billy Wright, David Beckham would be England's fifth player who has reached 100 appearances.
